Mentoring is an important component of the CCIE 360 program and helps delegates remain focused on the areas in which they need to improve. Each user has access to a mentor who is Cisco Certified to provide mentoring and access to the mentoring program which includes over 30 hours of phone/WebEx support for the program.
The Mentoring Program Flow
- Intro email - this email will come from the student´s assigned mentor and will give basic information about the mentor, the services that will be provided, the mentor´s contact information, so the student can access the mentor with any questions, and finally, this email will serve to schedule a time with the user to make an introductory phone call.
- Introductory phone call lasting 1 hour - during this phone call the mentor will perform an initial interview in order to learn some information about the history of the student. Based on this information, the mentor will immediately begin to adjust a lesson plan for each student. Phase 1 email with timeline and set dates of goals to meet objective of passing CCIE. This email will entail a customized road map for the student for the Cisco 360 program. This timeline may be adjusted as determined by the mentor.
- Once a week emails asking for updates - Once a week, the mentor will send out an email to each student to get updates on what was accomplished in the previous week, were there any questions/technical issues on topics covered, and basically make sure that the student is staying on track. This status check will provide feedback on each student´s progress and will include recommendations on how to adjust a given student´s lesson plan for the upcoming month.
- Follow-up emails with replies or WebEx showing examples. Estimated about 10 hours per phase. As technical issues are identified, the mentor will walk the student through these issues, either by email, or webex.
- Selected assessments have pre-meeting "spot the issues" (approx. 1 hour). This is typically a phone call in which the mentor will cover areas to focus on and tips for taking the lab. This is also an opportunity for the student to review any areas of concern.
- Selected assessments have post meeting (approx. 1.5 hours) - After the assessment, the mentor will have access to the student´s scores and configs in the Cisco learning portal. A phone call will be scheduled to discuss areas where the student did well, and identify the areas where the student needs improvement. This review will provide feedback in creating the Phase 2 timeline.
- Phase 2 timeline with set dates as goals to meet - This will include weekly status emails, follow-up emails, pre-meeting and post meeting assessment phone calls.
- Phase 3 timeline with set dates as goals to meet - This will include weekly status emails, follow-up emails, pre-meeting and post meeting assessment phone calls.
